Springtails are useful animals in humid terrariums, or in breeding with insects that live in soil. They will eat/decompose all waste. They will never harm eggs or live animals. The species we are making here is called Folsomia candida in Latin. Springtails are a member of the Collembola order (colloquially called springtails), and are a common and widespread arthropod that occurs in soil almost all over the world. Springtails are probably most often used for colored frogs, but are actually also a really nice live feed for smaller aquarium fish. The springtails will float and jump around on the water surface. Especially fish that hunt at the surface will quickly learn to appreciate springtails. Springtails have become very popular in the so-called bio terrariums, where you have live plants and natural materials. The purpose of a biological system is that it is self-cleaning, and more natural. Springtails come into the picture, as springtails are nature's solution, together with of course many other animals, to eat and decompose waste. Springtails will eat mold and mildew, dead leaves from the plants, remains of feeding insects, etc.
